Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field from an accredited college or university.
* Two years of relevant work experience in a recreation setting (graduate assistantship experience may be considered).
Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Facility Staff and Operations is an integral part of the Department of Recreational Sports staff and reports to the Senior Associate Director for Facilities. This position is primarily responsible for the successful staffing and operations of all Rec Sports facilities. Additionally, this position will fully hire and staff student employees for all Rec Sports Facilities, oversee the successful hosting of all special events and programs within the facilities, and direct all informal recreational programs within all facilities. This position supervises two Coordinators as well as 200+ student employees. In collaboration with the College of Education, Facility Management Division, Athletics Association, Parking Services, etc., this position will be instrumental in the successful staffing and operations of Rec Sports facilities.

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with risk management, assessment, and evaluations.


Physical Demands

  • Move throughout the 440,000 sq. ft Ramsey Center, Pound Hall, and Wheeler Hall.
  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb up and down ladders and in small spaces.
  • Walk across narrow accesses such as 1.5 ft. widths.
  • Operate department owned vehicles to run job related errands.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/more up to 50 pounds.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and focus.
  • Distinguish between non-toxic air flow and noxious odors.

Facility Operations Management:

  • Manage the operations of the Ramsey Student Center, Rec Sports Complex, Club Sports Complex, Lake Herrick Pavilion, and Pound Hall on the Health Sciences Campus.
  • Direct the successful setup and take down of equipment for special events/programs conducted by Recreational Sports, the UGA Athletic Association, University Union, various student organizations and community groups.
  • Design and plan a comprehensive informal recreation program within all facilities that will encourage safe and enjoyable participation for all patrons.
  • Lead assessment efforts focusing on identifying participation levels, informal recreation program participant interest, as well as Student Affairs learning and development objectives.
  • Assist with the management and scheduling of facility construction and renovation projects, and other duties involving aspects of facility projects.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervise, mentor, and effectively lead two full-time Coordinators.
  • Direct the proper recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of 200+ part-time student employees.
  • Ensure adequate personnel coverage for all recreation facilities during hours-of-operation, special event operations, and holiday hours.
  • Actively promote and participate in the development, retention & engagement of each staff member.
  • Assist with the student staff award, recognition, and student accountability programs.

Fiscal Management:

  • Work with the Business Services staff in developing and managing the facility operations budget to include payroll, purchases, and annual review of rental fees.
  • Use P-Card to purchase supplies, equipment, and pay for vendor services.
  • Manage and replace equipment inventory as needed.

Risk and Strategic Management:

  • Develop risk management procedures to include emergency action plans and business continuity plans. Maintain facility access control and security systems.
  • Educate facility patrons on policies and resolve situations relating to facility access, reservations, and usage policies.
  • Ensure the effective training of staff to respond appropriately to incidents and accidents.
