Conducts safety inspections and trainings to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all safety standards and regulations.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts regular safety inspections of the facilities and safety equipment to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Oversees general safety programs, collects and analyzes statistical data on safety, and ensures accurate documentation is maintained.
  • Coordinates and conducts staff and volunteer training on safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Advises staff on safety compliance and assists with any questions or issues. Escalates violations and non-compliance to appropriate leadership.
  • Coordinates the performance of fire, abduction and tornado drills for main campus and off-site locations.

Education Requirement:

Associate's Degree in Healthcare Safety, Environmental Safety, Fire Science, or related field, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Certifications:

  • Certification in fire fighting methodology by the City of Columbus, required.
  • Certification in OSHA, Joint Commission and other hospital and industry related regulatory agencies, required.
  • Certification in Operations or Trainer level HazMat qualification, required.
  • Certification in Hazardous Material Handling and related USDOT regulations, required.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Ohio buildings codes, Joint Commission, OSHA, and the Ohio Fire Code.
  • Working knowledge of ergonomics and body mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of disaster response protocols.

Experience:

Four years of experience in healthcare safety or related field, required.

Physical Requirements:

OCCASIONALLY: Bend/twist, Climb stairs/ladder, Cold Temperatures, Electricity, Flexing/extending of neck, Hot Temperatures, Lifting / Carrying: 41-60 lbs, Loud Noises, Machinery, Power Tools, Pushing / Pulling: 100 lbs or greater with assistance, Pushing / Pulling: 26-40 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 41-60 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 61-100 lbs, Reaching above shoulder, Sitting, Squat/kneel, Working at Heights, Working Outdoors

FREQUENTLY: Decision Making, Driving motor vehicles (work required) *additional testing may be required, Lifting / Carrying: 0-10 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 11-20 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 21-40 lbs, Problem solving, Pushing / Pulling: 0-25 lbs, Standing, Walking

CONTINUOUSLY: Audible speech, Color vision, Computer skills, Depth perception, Hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, Hearing acuity, Interpreting Data, Peripheral vision, Repetitive hand/arm use, Seeing - Far/near
