This position will work directly with the customer and will be responsible for being an instrumental member of a team that will identify alternative approaches to determine environmental gaps and propose a series of tactical and strategic recommendations to improve the current infrastructure environment. This includes managing resources, scheduling, customer expectations, risk, and budget. This position requires hands-on project management experience, a strong background in technology (infrastructure), and experience implementing technical solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with team on network optimization
- Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access
- Reporting network operational status by gathering and prioritizing information; managing projects
- Assist with coordinating assessment of emerging technologies typically as the lead subject matter expert
- Evaluating and recommending new projects or tools for the organization
- Reviewing cost benefit analysis and presenting options to management teams
- Assisting in the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations or development personnel
- Articulating relationship between business and the data and technology that support the business
- Identifying opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies; making recommendations and influencing long-term technology strategy and planning
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree and 6 years Network Engineering experience (OR 10+ years experience without degree)
- Relevant networking certifications (Juniper, Cisco)
- US Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- Strong working knowledge of networking technologies (routing, switching, load-balancers, firewalls, wireless, VPN, VOIP, etc.)
- Management and design of enterprise networks
- Experience with VPN, SSL Pulse Secure, network security solutions, Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco, switches and routers, Whatsup Gold
- WAN and LAN network strategy, architecture, design, implementation, and operations
- Network management operational processes and controls
- Firewall Policy Administration & Management
- Security aware: Understand the security implications of decisions and balance security and risk according to business needs and goals
- Strong customer service, communication, and teaming skills
- Must have strong hands-on troubleshooting skills with the Juniper enterprise class routers and switch product lines
- Must be able to maintain excellent network documentation using Visio, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Occasional local travel to Ashburn, VA may be required
- Hybrid reporting- on site in Washington, DC on Wednesday/Thursday/Friday, telework Monday/Tuesday
