Duration: 12 months

Shift Hours: Hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 am -4:30 pm (some flexibility on start and end time)

Major Functions:

The role of the Buyer/Planner is to work within the organization's various business units to identify proper material demand per master schedule, and confirm it is purchased and delivered in a timely manner from approved suppliers, while ensuring high quality, cost effectiveness, and minimum order quantities. The business units involved include, but are not limited to, Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production Control.

The right candidate will possess transformative knowledge of all supply chain activities, including conversion of raw materials and components into a finished product that is delivered to the end customer. Additional beneficial knowledge includes sourcing, negotiation, and supplier review.

Job Responsibilities

  • This role reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager.
  • This role is responsible for supply chain activities related to the procurement, maintenance and sustainability of the flow of material to manufacturing and/or Client offshore contract manufacturers.
  • Define specifications in terms of optimal quantity on-hand, in-transit, and on-order to ensure flow, cost and delivery metrics are met.
  • Select suppliers according to the type of product, quality provided by the supplier and the possibility of a long-term partnership.
  • Negotiate contacts that include costs, warranties, delivery, handling and penalties for late delivery or cost overruns.
  • Manage the purchasing cycle, from purchase order to consumption.
  • Monitor supplier performance, providing feedback on KPIs, and ensuring proper and effective communication.
  • Navigate ERP to effectively and efficiently plan material orders and issue purchase orders and maintain and update the data contained within.
  • Maintain internal records and system data fields for pricing, lead-times, vendor performance data, etc.
  • Provide cost data for sales proposals.
  • Become familiar with technical drawings, material specifications, BOMs, manufacturing routings and secondary operations.
  • Challenge the status quo and demonstrate a propensity of action, leading to the most effective execution of your duties.
  • Be comfortable working collaboratively in a fast paced and changing environment.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related discipline from an accredited institution and 3 years of experience in a manufacturing; or an Associate's degree in a business-related discipline and 5 years of supply chain experience.
  • The ability to understand and use ERP to manage and control demand and purchasing requirements on a timely and accurate manner.
  • Must have strong organizational skills relative to production and material control, as well as excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build and improve trusting relationships with suppliers.
  • This position requires access to United States Export Controlled information.
