DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In the role of a Mechanic Intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside designated mechanics, gaining essential skills to thrive in various tasks. These responsibilities include performing general repairs and preventative maintenance on cars and light trucks; executing oil and tire changes; inspecting and replacing brakes; and assessing and repairing suspensions. Additionally, you will diagnose and fix air conditioning systems; document repairs; understand and complete work orders; and utilize computer diagnostics. It is also crucial to maintain tools and equipment by following proper handling, usage, and storage protocols, while ensuring compliance with all departmental policies and procedures.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location.
- Senior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could begin 7/1/2025 and go through the 2025-2026 school year.
- Junior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could begin 7/1/2025 and go through the 2025-2026 school year, summer 2026, and 2026-2027 school year.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years of age.
- You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Additional Requirements:
- Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
- Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
- By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
- Must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational training program that has prepared the student for the duties and the description of work described in this posting.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
