Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Sponsored Research Accounting is responsible for overseeing financial management and compliance related to externally funded research projects within the institution. This role involves coordinating budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and university regulations. The Assistant Director also collaborates with researchers and administrative staff to provide guidance on grant accounting practices and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Oversee the preparation and submission of grant budgets to ensure accuracy and compliance with funding agency requirements.

Job Duty 2 -
Monitor financial transactions related to sponsored research projects to ensure expenditures align with approved budgets.

Job Duty 3 -
Review and approve financial reports for externally funded research projects prior to submission to funding agencies.

Job Duty 4 -
Provide training and support to faculty and staff on grant accounting policies and procedures to promote compliance and effective financial management.

Job Duty 5 -
Conduct regular audits of sponsored research accounts to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

Job Duty 6 -
Prepare financial analysis and forecasts for sponsored research projects to inform decision-making and resource allocation.

Job Duty 7 -
Serve as a liaison between researchers, administrative staff, and funding agencies to facilitate communication and resolve financial issues.

Job Duty 8 -
Develop and implement internal controls and best practices for managing sponsored research funds to enhance efficiency and accountability.

Job Duty 9 -
Collaborate with the cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations governing sponsored research.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certification may be preferred or required.

Required Experience
Six or more years of relevant experience, including three or more years of supervisory knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in Sponsored project management including billing, project set-up, budgeting and journal entry.
  • Strength in reviewing request for proposal, creating federal, state, and industrial contract proposals.
  • Working knowledge of the FAR, experience with CostPoint and Propricer systems.

Anticipated annual salary $72,783.00 to $103,005.00 commensurate with qualifications
