Job Summary
Applies fundamental knowledge of basic principles, theories and concepts and standards related to the research of new tooling concepts, designing and verification of new tooling used in the manufacture and certification of aircraft structures, component parts and related component systems and subsystems for operational aircraft.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Develops or assists in developing solutions to a variety of routine and standardized engineering or technical problems or assignments following established engineering protocols in the analysis and design, development and verification of production tooling used in manufacturing and repair of aircraft structures, power plant component parts, mechanical and electrical systems and subsystems for commercial, military, executive, general aviation, or special purpose applications on operational aircraft.
- Assists in obtaining input from production personnel for new tooling designs for manufacturing and certification of aircraft structures, component parts and related component systems and subsystems.
- Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confers with other engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.
- Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration. Selects standard items such as bushings and tool bits to incorporate into tool design and draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawings.
- Develops Bill of Materials and resources for all new tooling and analyzes performance to plan completion of tool. Coordinates with Production and tool fabrication departments on all phases of tool fabrication.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Education Requirements
Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree. Engineering or the sciences or equivalent. If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.Experience Requirements 0-3 year(s) Skills and Competencies
- Communicates effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.
- Makes telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and makes formal presentations to small or large groups.
- Operates standard office equipment and demonstrates competence in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Basic working knowledge of computer systems and applications and experience using the most recent versions of AutoCAD.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
