Position Description:

In the role of a Librarian II you will be working in our Research Department.

Purpose

The Office of Research helps to facilitate life-saving biomedical research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Nine distinct units provide specialized support to meet the administrative needs of our investigators and research staff. Together we coordinate, regulate, and monitor research studies as well as provide high quality services for investigative teams. The MCW Libraries supports all institutional missions and partners by providing access to and support for information resources, and specialized services for faculty, researchers, students, clinicians, staff, and community members.

The Clinical Medical Librarian position at Children's Wisconsin (CW), represents .5 FTE of a full-time position providing quality, timely, and thorough information services to support patient care, education, and research at CW by meeting the information needs of MCW and CW faculty, physicians, students, administration, staff and the public (including patient families). Additionally, they participate in the Clinical Medical Librarianship program including attending Senior Rounds for the Department of Pediatrics and other clinical teams by providing literature searches and articles to support clinical care and education.

The remaining .5 FTE of this position provides a full range of library services to the MCW faculty, researchers, students and staff at Todd Wehr Library. This includes reference services, instruction, database searching, liaison activities, committee involvement, etc. This is a hybrid on-site role with a primary work location at the Medical College of Wisconsin Todd Wehr Library.


Primary Functions

  • Promote library resources and services and participate in clinical medical library activities.
  • Provide instruction on library resources, evidence-based practice, citation management, etc.
  • Support and collaborate with clinicians, researchers, faculty, students, and staff.
  • Provide information services, including bibliographic retrieval and consultations to library users in-person and by phone, e-mail, and online meeting services.
  • Create online library guides to highlight information resources.
  • Participate in professional organizations, conferences, continuing education, and professional reading and/or publishing to continue to develop professionally.
  • Share acquired knowledge with colleagues and constituents to advance the knowledge of the institution.
  • Provide occasional support for the library's scientific poster printing service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Specifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Master's Degree in Library Science

Minimum Required Experience: 2 years of experience in an academic, medical, or special library in a public service role.

Preferred Experience: 2 years of experience as a librarian in a medical library supporting evidence-based medicine to an active clinical practice preferred.
