Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's Transportation team is growing and we are looking for a Traffic Signal Specialist to help design smarter, safer, and more efficient traffic systems that keep our communities moving. We're looking for a skilled professional who's passionate about signal timing, traffic safety, and making a real difference through data-driven solutions.

Responsibilities

    Work of signal timing optimization and implementation to maximize transportation system throughput (using SYNCHRO, Tru-Traffic and similar programs)
  • Understanding of traffic signal operations including familiarity with various controller types and platforms
  • Provide analyses of traffic safety issues and crash reduction measures

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently
  • A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with MicroStation
  • Expertise with Synchro and SimTraffic; experience with Tru-Traffic

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of signal design engineering experience or equivalent experience depending on level of education
  • 7 - 10 years of experience working on signal timings and controllers preferred
  • Bachelor's Science Degree or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred
  • Experience working with Synchro and ATMS software required
  • IMSA Traffic Signal II certification- or able to obtain
