Job Responsibilities
  • Lead project teams on the design, build, testing and manufacturing of lasers. Responsible for all technical and programmatic aspects of the project, including schedule, budget and requirements.
  • Lead project teams by utilizing project management methodologies/platforms including Agile, Waterfall, and Lean manufacturing.
  • Develop novel photonic architectures to meet customer applications. Review customer requirements and manage a project team to develop designs to best support them.
  • As project lead this position will also own all aspects of systems engineering including the engineering requirements management, RVTM, Interface documents, FMEA's, Risk Registers, etc.
  • Provide technical leadership in preparation of complex project plans.
  • Mentor junior engineers in laser physics, optical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, controls, or robotics.
  • Communicate clearly with business development, manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required.
  • Lead project teams: practice leadership by service and example to define and maintain culture, coach the team to openly discuss and make data and logic-based decisions or make decisions for the team when under stress and without complete information, foresee issues ahead and plan to mitigate.
  • Responsible for evaluation of failure modes, conducting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions for the company products
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 10 years of experience
  • High level of knowledge and experience in multiple engineering disciplines enough to lead engineers on the project team. Understanding of mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical designs and their interactions in a system to meet performance requirements.
  • Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge in lasers, photonics, controls, sensors, or robotics.
  • Laser optical system design experience required. Knowledge of semiconductor laser technology, laser and optical design and modeling, optical components and materials from UV to IR, optical metrology and measurement equipment required.
  • Hands-on experience in the development, prototyping, testing or transfer to production of complex electro-optical systems
  • Appreciation and practice for engineering process rigor appropriately applied based on product/process maturity

The pay scale for this position is $146,497/year - $227,436/year. The pay scale information is a general guideline only. Several factors can influence the pay scale for a position including but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic locations, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate's qualifications such as relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
