The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a senior maintenance worker to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. Reports to the Golf Course Superintendent III. Operates and cares for operating tractors, tractor attachments, bucket loaders, spray tanks, reel and rotary mowers, and other motorized equipment. Driver's license required to operate county vehicles and equipment. Completes repairs, renovations, and maintenance of golf course grounds and facilities. Maintenance of golf course grounds/turf and irrigation systems. Provides repairs, service and scheduled maintenance to hand tools and machinery. Inspects equipment for safety and proper operation. Assists with preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment. Completes and submits required reports. Determines materials and tools required to complete daily assignments. Informs golf course superintendent of any conditions requiring additional attention. Assists with routine maintenance on equipment. Completes and submits a preventive maintenance report for work performed on equipment and irrigation systems. Performs semi-skilled and unskilled labor. Submits a list of materials required to complete assignments. Keeps inventory of chemicals, equipment and irrigation parts. Operates satellite controllers for an automated irrigation system, including sprinkler heads and valves. Repairs irrigation leaks, replaces sprinkler heads and valves, troubleshoots electrical issues and splicing wires.
Reports to 6100 Clifton Rd. Clifton, VA 20124, Twin Lakes Golf Course. Work hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with overtime required when necessary. Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work required. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.

- Performs various semi-skilled tasks, to include specialized concrete and asphalt work (e.g., setting forms, finishing, etc.);
- General maintenance and repair of machinery;
- Inspects and approves work of Maintenance Workers;
- Provides guidance and training to Maintenance Workers;
- May lead a crew in absence of Maintenance Crew Chief;
- Inspects, and reviews work of a crew engaged in a variety of basic maintenance, construction and grounds keeping activities;
- May Lead grass cutting, sodding, seeding, and fertilizing activities;
- Leads playground equipment maintenance;
- Completes daily and preventive maintenance reports;
- Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

- Working knowledge of small engine equipment;
- Knowledge of single axle dump truck, trailer, utility bucket truck, snow plow, spreader, tank truck, water truck and pickup truck;
- Working knowledge of and the ability to use methods, tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance, construction, and grounds keeping activities;
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices;
- Basic knowledge of computers;
- Ability to lead other employees in a variety of activities, maintain records, and prepare reports;
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
- Ability to perform activities requiring manual dexterity;
- Ability to perform basic data entry;
- Ability to work outside with regular exposure to severe weather, noxious fumes, high levels of dust, etc.;
- Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor;
- Ability to comprehend and comply to safety practices;
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with customers, employees and supervisors.

Employment Standards
-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; and two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least two years performing maintenance activities on a golf course.
- Ability to operate hand-held, walk-behind and riding grounds maintenance equipment such as string trimmers, sod cutters, chainsaws, and utility tractors with implements.
- Knowledge of maintenance of irrigation systems.
- At least two years of experience with the repair and maintenance of outdoor equipment, spray tanks, reel and rotary mowers.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Driver's license (required) Registered Pesticide Technician Required
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and child protective services registry check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift 50 pounds up to 75 pounds with assistance. Ability to use hand/power tools; ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment and truck trailer; ability to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment and clothing. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Panel interview and may include exercise.
