Job Summary

The Wellness and Fitness Technician Senior supports the daily operations of MCC's two Fitness Centers, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all users. This role includes overseeing and training part-time employees and student workers, providing excellent customer service, and managing personal training, group fitness, and employee wellness programs. The Wellness and Fitness Technician Senior also assists with the coordination of Physical Education course logistics, including scheduling, space readiness, and faculty support. Additional duties include tracking program participation, maintaining accurate records and reports, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and managing administrative tasks such as purchasing, budget support and insurance reimbursement documentation. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to ensure smooth operations and a positive experience for all participants.

Essential Functions

20% Facility Operations - Oversee daily operations of the campus fitness centers to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. Assist with opening/closing procedures, equipment maintenance scheduling, and enforcement of facility policies. Coordinate with maintenance and custodial staff to address repair and cleaning needs. Provide floor supervision during operational hours and assist members with check-in and equipment use.

20% Staff Oversight & Training - Support the hiring, onboarding, scheduling, monitoring, and mentorship of part-time staff, student workers, and volunteers. Lead training and provide ongoing mentorship on customer service, safety protocols, and proper equipment use. Provide visible leadership inside the fitness center workout area, especially during peak times. Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and operational protocols and promote a culture of professionalism and excellent service. Participate in staff meetings and contribute to planning and team development.

20% Program Support & Coordination - Manage and support personal and small group training services, including trainer scheduling, client onboarding, and service quality. Oversee employee wellness initiatives such as events, workshops, activity classes, and specialty programs. Assist with coordination of Physical Education (PED) courses, including input on scheduling, space readiness, and faculty support. Address equipment, maintenance, or space scheduling conflicts proactively. Contribute to outreach, marketing, and promotion of fitness center programs. Assist in developing, marketing, and promoting new wellness programs and services. Monitor participation and assess impact through feedback collection.

10% Administrative & Financial Support - Maintain accurate membership, waiver, and program documentation. Track and submit reimbursement documentation for insurance-based senior fitness programs (e.g., SilverSneakers, Renew Active, Silver and Fit, etc.). Process employee wellness incentive payments. Assist with purchases, budget monitoring, and inventory tracking. Help ensure compliance with department, college, and district-related administrative requirements.

10% Member Services & Customer Support - Serve as a key point of contact for members, assisting with registration, accounts, and general inquiries. Help resolve customer concerns, use feedback to improve, and ensure a high-quality experience for all users. Communicate clearly and professionally with students, employees, and community members.

10% Data Tracking & Reporting - Maintain accurate records for attendance, memberships, equipment use, and program engagement. Assist with data collection, tracking, and analysis to inform operational decisions and continuous improvement. Prepare monthly and end-of-semester reports as requested. Maintain an accurate inventory of fitness center equipment to ensure all assets are accounted for, functional, and available to support student use, academic programs, and campus wellness initiatives.

5% Compliance, Safety & Risk Management - Ensure compliance with safety procedures, including CPR/AED protocols and emergency response guidelines. Coordinate with campus police and relevant departments for routine safety checks and equipment inspections. Maintain up-to-date documentation related to liability, waivers, and usage guidelines. Complete or support incident reporting and risk management procedures. Comply with facility standards and procedures.

5% Other Duties - Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED supplemented by training and/or coursework in exercise physiology, physical fitness or related field and two years of experience performing fitness assessments, developing workout prescriptions and/or circuit training.

There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

Desired Qualifications

A. Bachelor's degree or higher in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Recreation Management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

B. At least two years of experience delivering fitness instruction, including personal training, small group training, and/or group fitness classes.

C. At least one year of experience providing customer service support in a fitness facility, including assistance with registration, account management, and general inquiries.

D. At least one year of experience onboarding, training, and/or mentoring staff, interns, or student employees, preferably in a fitness or recreation facility.

E. Experience in developing, coordinating, implementing, and/or evaluating fitness and wellness programs, personal training services, group fitness schedules, wellness education initiatives, and/or mind-body wellness offerings.

F. Experience with data collection, tracking, analysis, and/or reporting for program improvement or administrative purposes.

G. Proficiency with office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace) and experience using one or more of the following platforms:

a. Learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard)

b. Student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday)

c. Financial and human capital management systems

d. Cloud-based case management or communication tools

e. Membership management systems (e.g., Red Rock Track Cloud, Mindbody, Club OS)

f. Insurance-based fitness reimbursement and eligibility tracking platforms (e.g., Tivity Health, Renew Active Portal)

H. Nationally recognized certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM) in group fitness, personal training and/or specialized group fitness/small group training.
