About the Role

The selected candidate will conduct biological fieldwork with a focus on botanical surveys, wildlife assessments (including avian species), and stream and wetland delineations. Projects will be located primarily in New Mexico with potential for other areas in the Southwest and may include travel to remote areas. This is an on-call position; work is assigned based on project availability and candidate schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to identify plant species, evaluate wildlife habitat, and document avian activity.
  • Perform stream and wetland delineations following USACE guidelines.
  • Collect data using GPS units, tablets, and standardized digital or paper field forms.
  • Work independently or as part of a small team in remote and rugged terrain.
  • Ensure accurate, defensible data collection to support environmental permitting and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, or related discipline.
  • At least 1-3 years of experience conducting biological fieldwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    1. Identify native and invasive plant species in New Mexico;
    2. Conduct avian or general wildlife field surveys;
    3. Delineate wetlands and streams according to USACE protocols.
  • Familiarity with ESA, MBTA, Clean Water Act, and regional species regulations.
  • Ability to hike long distances in varied terrain and conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally, including overnight.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on NEPA or regulatory compliance projects.
  • Wetland delineation training or certification.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Field Maps, or other mobile data tools.
  • Prior field experience with state or federal agencies (e.g., BLM, USFS, USACE) a plus.

Compensation Information: Base salary for this position is in the range of $25-$29/hour.

Compensation is determined by factors such as education, experience, location, and role. As employee-owners, we are eligible for performance-based bonuses and our salaries are reviewed annually. Our compensation structure prioritizes transparency and internal pay equity.
