Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Positions in this banded class perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of electronics devices, instruments, equipment and/or systems. Work may involve design and construction or modification of electronic devices. Positions operate standard and/or specialized testing equipment while troubleshooting electronic devices and systems. Some positions may be assigned to a specific system while others may work with multiple systems. Examples of equipment/systems maintained by Electronics Specialists include power switchgear and panel boards with amp meters, power meters and frequency meters, environmental control system, ocean research and monitoring system, fire alarm system, HVAC system, and campus card systems. This may require knowledge of NFPA or other life safety systems codes and standards. Work requires knowledge of electronic principles, mathematical principles and fundamental of physics as applied to electronics.

This position will work with the Facilities Physical Security Access and Lockshop Team to:

  • Perform repairs, pins cores, cuts keys and contributes to re-key projects.
  • Potential to earn Locksmith license, assist with basic locksmithing duties.
  • Assist with standard door and door hardware entry systems.


This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the university and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the university may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice or debris.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Associate's degree in electronics; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Certifications or Licensure
North Carolina Driver's license or the ability to obtain within 30 days.

Work Hours 7:00AM - 4:00PM, with emergency and possible on call duty
