Job Description

Job Summary

Rockwell Automation is looking for someone to grow their career as a Team Lead. You will manage a team of electronic firmware engineers responsible for all phases of new product development from requirements definition to product design to certification testing to production release. Your team will develop and enhance our existing and next generation Programmable Logic Controllers, I/O Products, and Communication devices.

You will see and learn all functional aspects of product development. You will have the ability to make major impacts on product developments, collaborating with leadership across Engineering, Product Management, Business, Quality, and Operations. The environment fosters a collaborative and innovative approach to work with teams across the globe. You will be continually supported with mentorship and coaching. With success in this role, you will have the opportunity to grow and develop into an engineering manager with increased scope and responsibility.

You will report to the Engineering manager and work hybrid from Mayfield Heights, Ohio

You will:

  • Manage a team of 5-10 Firmware in a servant leadership manner by providing technical coordination and guidance for your team in the areas of architecture, design integrity, manufacturability, test, and mitigation of quality issues.
  • Take leadership for an organizational initiative and work across peer managers across the world to move that area forward. This would be in areas like talent management, simulation/analysis tools, or process changes. You will also be responsible for project sponsorship for global developments.
  • Ensure product development activities comply with corporate and business level processes and procedures. Be responsible for helping the team think and create a continuous improvement mindset against those processes and procedures.
  • Develop your team by assisting them with goal setting and achievement, providing for their continued development, and performing performance management. Work with individuals to help them reach their full potential.
  • Encourage a positive and inclusive work environment to foster outstanding performance. Work with leadership to understand and then implement the vision of a performance driven and collaborative workplace.
  • Help your team eliminate waste by leading improvement activities in design capabilities and processes so your team is best in class in development execution.
  • Be passionate about our pursuit of delivering quality designs and implementations right the first time.
  • Be a key part of a cross functional product development team, responsible for the creation and execution of product development and delivery strategies to achieve Business goals.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Essentials - You Might Also Have:

  • Typically requires no previous management/leadership experience.
  • 5 years experience in product development, test, and release of electronic firmware systems
  • Experience demonstrating technical leading capabilities, working effectively with different levels of staff across functional boundaries
  • Ability to understand and apply knowledge of object-oriented analysis, design, and programming techniques
  • Experience programming in object-oriented languages like C++
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated tests and tools in Python
  • Previous experience working with test architectures preferably with real-time embedded development environments
  • Ability to direct the day-to-day technical activities of a small team of engineers.
  • Past technical leadership experience in an agile development setting
  • Advanced courses or degree in engineering, computer science or controls
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle and software test processes
