JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is seeking an experienced and skilled Manager of Design for our Facilities Planning team. This position works under minimal supervision to provide complex technical expertise in coordination and management of resources, design competency, and applicable code compliance for all Facility Design & Construction Renovation design projects.

Work Location: Dallas Campus, traveling to and from UTSW campus locations may be required.

Shift Requirement: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; some remote work options may be available and should be discussed during interview process.

    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in architectural design or engineering


  • Experience
    8 years experience in architectural design or construction


Preferred



  • Licenses and Certifications
    Licensing in Architecture or Mechanical/Electrical Upon Hire


JOB DUTIES



  • Provides strategic planning for current and future workload projections to the Associate Director of Renovations.
  • Coordinates posting of positions, evaluating respondents, hiring of Design staff employees, and reductions in workforce.
  • Develops and maintains a reputation for decisive leadership, consistent and firm interpretations of contracts, codes, professionalism and fairness. Maintains and recommends improvements.
  • Plans, assigns, reviews, and supervises work of architectural, engineering staff in development of programs, schematics, site analysis, preliminary and working drawings, and specifications.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of the implementation of UTSW processes and products standards on new projects.
  • Provides oversight of the process for updating the as-builts in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Promotes the use of FD&C program management information system (PMIS) to manage all the projects.
  • Coordinate with outside consultants and in-house design team to development of design documents and specifications for University projects.
  • Serves as liaison with construction coordinators and inspectors to provide technical support as well as approve changes and material substitutions.
  • Reviews architectural plans and drawings to ensure adherence to OFPC "Guideline for Architect/Engineer Services", UT Southwestern design standards, and specifications.
  • Approved design staff time cards, vacation request and attendance.
  • Manage building as built and room numbering.
  • Interviews users and provides professional architectural design consultation services relative to user's needs.
  • Consults on plans and specifications for new construction as well as remodeling of existing campus buildings, including coordination of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural modifications using architectural skills.
  • Researches applicable buildings, safety codes and regulations relative to campus projects and plans submitted by outside architectural firms to ensure compliance.
  • Performs special projects as assigned following supervisor instructions to meet departmental goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
