Purpose of the Role

The Principal Project Planner plays a key leadership role in ensuring that project scheduling and planning functions are aligned with strategic delivery objectives, sustainability goals, and client expectations.

This role is responsible for the development, accuracy, and integrity of engineering and construction schedules across complex and multi-disciplinary projects. As a technical expert and mentor within the planning function, the Principal Project Planner supports the execution of project lifecycles while enhancing planning capabilities that enable Worley's transition toward a more sustainable and resilient future.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the coordination and performance of planning and scheduling personnel across assigned projects to ensure consistency, accuracy, and timely delivery of schedules.



  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules that support project controls, risk analysis, progress measurement, and cost forecasting efforts.



  • Support early project phases by guiding the creation of realistic baseline schedules that align with overall project execution strategies and sustainability objectives.



  • Ensure planning practices and tools are fully aligned with Worley's project delivery frameworks and compliant with client, internal, and regulatory requirements.



  • Provide advanced technical guidance and mentorship to schedulers, supporting professional growth and promoting continuous improvement across the function.



  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, construction, and commercial to ensure planning inputs and outputs are effectively coordinated.



  • Identify planning-related risks and issues, proposing mitigation strategies that support decision-making and schedule reliability.



  • Interface with clients to present scheduling methodologies, updates, forecasts, and recovery plans, acting as a trusted advisor for planning performance.



  • Contribute to the development, testing, and implementation of scheduling tools, processes, and systems, including the adoption of digital planning technologies.



  • Provide input into resource planning and allocation decisions, ensuring scheduling capacity meets project and business needs.



  • Support corporate planning excellence initiatives, including lessons learned and best practice sharing across projects and regions.



Qualifications / Skill Set


  • University degree or equivalent in engineering, construction management, project controls, or a related discipline. Equivalent industry experience may also be considered.



  • Substantial experience in planning and scheduling on large-scale projects within the energy, chemicals, or resources sectors.



  • Recognized expertise in developing and managing engineering and construction schedules using industry-standard tools and methodologies.



  • Strong understanding of project execution processes across the full lifecycle-from concept and feasibility through to construction, commissioning, and closeout.



  • Demonstrated ability to guide project teams and influence stakeholders through planning expertise, data interpretation, and effective communication.



  • Skilled in identifying scheduling risks and providing practical solutions that support project goals and sustainability considerations.



  • Familiarity with emerging technologies in planning and scheduling, and a willingness to support innovation in digital project delivery.



  • Proven experience mentoring, coaching, or technically guiding planning professionals in a collaborative and performance-driven environment.



  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across complex project portfolios.



  • Clear and confident communicator capable of presenting complex planning information to technical and non-technical audiences.



  • Committed to continuous learning, safety, compliance, and delivering sustainable outcomes through responsible project planning practices.
