UIC is seeking a Research Nurse to join our College of Medicine, Institute for Juvenile Research. This role will coordinate, plan, and implement clinical research protocols for the UIC Clinical Services in Psychopharmacology Program, which investigates the safety and effectiveness of psychopharmacotherapy for treating emotional and behavioral disturbances in minors under the care of the State of Illinois. Additionally, this position will work closely with the Associate Director and the research team to align activities, goals, and resources to meet study objectives and ensure quality control. The Research Nurse will also share expertise effectively with the team and contacts in the field regarding study policies, procedures, and the latest research in psychopharmacological treatment for children and adolescents.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, plan and implement clinical research protocols for the UIC Clinical Services in Psychopharmacology Program evaluating the safety and effectiveness of psychopharmacotherapy for the treatment of emotional and behavioral disturbances of minors who in the care of the State of Illinois.
  • Oversees the work of the research staff to help ensure the contractual needs of the research and project deliverables are met.
  • Working closely with the Associate Director and the research team, in aligning activities, goals and resources to meet study objectives and quality control.
  • Complete required documentation for agency partners.
  • Effectively share expertise with team and contacts in the field of the studies policies and procedures and the latest research in psychopharmacological treatment of children and adults
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  2. One year of work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  3. Knowledge regarding the safety and efficacy of psychopharmacology treatment for minors with emotional and behavioral disturbances.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of inpatient psychiatric nursing.
  • Two years of work experience as Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Experience in child and adolescent psychiatry and research.
  • Knowledge of Psychopharmacological medications, doses, and algorithms. Familiarity with the child welfare system and insurance, issues.
  • Knowledge of mental health.
