Position Overview
The Lied Center serves as a catalyst for the arts, creativity, engagement and community-building at the University of Kansas and beyond, presenting and hosting well over 200 events per year. The Events & Box Office Coordinator plays a meaningful role in the areas of front-of-house services, ticketing and volunteer coordination for these events.
The Events & Box Office Coordinator assists the Senior Director of Events and Audience Services (SEASD) in front-of-house operations for events and will coordinate the Lied Center's team of approximately 100 volunteer ushers. They also assist the SEASD and work with the Box Office & Events Manager (BOEM) in executing ticketing operations, including customer service and season ticket sales. The Events & Box Office Coordinator must be willing to work an irregular schedule, including evenings and weekends, to facilitate the optimal audience experience at the Lied Center.
Job Description
Event Management 55%
- Manage volunteer ushers, including recruiting volunteers, leading orientation and training, planning appreciation events, handling communications, and managing related software for event sign-ups.
- Assist the SEASD in the areas of front-of-house operations, including staffing events.
- Provide input regarding the policies and standards related to the front-of-house experience at the Lied Center.
- Complete other event-related duties as assigned by the SEASD.
Ticketing 45%
- Sell and distribute tickets (including outreach).
- Assist the SEASD and work with the BOEM in all necessary accounting (including payroll deduction), reconciliations (including UT Box Office), deposits, refunds, settlements, and internal/external communications.
- Provide input regarding the policies and standards related to the ticket buying experience at the Lied Center.
Position Requirements
- This position requires working an irregular schedule, including frequent nights and weekends.
- This position requires working on site.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, performing arts, or relevant field and one (1) year of related experience OR five (5) years of related experience
- Experience using the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), as evidenced in application materials.
- One year experience in a customer service or customer-facing role.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills as demonstrated in application materials.
- Experience working in a team-based or collaborative environment, as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year working in a box office setting that utilizes ticketing software, or the equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of the performing arts, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience as a front-of-house or events manager, as evidenced by application materials.
- Volunteer management experience, as evidenced in application materials.
