JOB TITLE:

Academic Advising Prof, Senior

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide academic advising to students in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Review, process, and make recommendations on degree audits and transfer transcripts. Serve as a liaison between the CEPS Advising Office and CEPS Academic Departments. Develop and administer program activities related to advising, orientation, and retention of students in collaboration with Advising Manager. Provide guidance and complex training to other academic advisors in the center. Work collaboratively with other units on campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide academic advising for undergraduate students in multiple departments in CEPS. Daily use of Banner Student Information System , Navigate, and other advising platforms. Interpret UW and CEPS regulations, policies, and complex degree programs. Understand and adhere to ABET policies. Advise students to identify and overcome academic difficulties. Work with students to identify opportunities and promote their success at UW. Refer students as appropriate to UW and CEPS resources. Assist students with registration and prerequisite issues. Problem-solve regarding student's course selections. Counsel students who have experienced academic challenges (such as Bridge, Early Alert, Probation, Suspension, and Reinstatements). Initiate and complete credit evaluations for returning and transfer students. Develop advising materials.
  • Manage all aspects of critical degree check procedures for assigned advisees. Maintain consistency between department requirements and Student Information Systems (Degree Works). Manage student files for multiple programs. Maintain student databases for multiple programs.
  • Regularly interact and work closely with students, faculty, department heads, ACES, Office of the Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, Advising Manager, CEPS Student Services Center, Career Services, and the CEPS Assistant and Associate Deans for Academic Programs to resolve problems and make decisions relating to degree requirements, registration, and student success. Provide assistance to students. Facilitate communication with students. Assist with course management as related to prerequisite enforcement. Work with departments on course management issues.
  • Remain knowledgeable on University and CEPS policies, regulations and procedures, federal regulations (FERPA), and other policies that impact advising. Become and remain knowledgeable on ABET accreditation requirements. Remain knowledgeable regarding Wyoming community colleges policies, regulations and procedures pertaining to degree requirements, admissions, registration, financial aid and career counseling.
  • Become and remain knowledgeable on best practices in advising. Develop a personal professional development plan and philosophy of advising statement. Participate in training programs as appropriate. Collaborate with CEPS Advising Office staff to promote best practices.
  • Assist with New Student Orientations. Assist with development of materials and programming. Attend all sessions, and advise incoming students. Participate in Orientation activities. Check and finalize new student schedules. Advise incoming students who are not able to attend Orientation.
  • Collaborate in development and administration of training programs for faculty mentoring. Assist with implementation and coordination of faculty mentoring activities.
  • Collaborate with development and administration of learning community schedules and activities.
  • Collaborate with development and administration of student retention programs.
  • Participate in annual Wyoming articulation conference for engineering, computer science, and physical sciences. Establish and maintain relationships with community college partners to promote student success. Provide curricular and program updates and information to community colleges.
  • Serve on College Scholarship Committee as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Psychology-related program, or a related field

Experience: 3 years work-related experience with student popluations, administration, program development, or customer service

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three or more years of experience in academic advising for engineering or other ABET accredited programs.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with student information systems and database systems (Navigate, Banner, and WyoWeb), for efficient in-person and online advising.
  • Familiarity with academic policies, FERPA regulations, and retention-focused advising practices.
  • Experience with proactive outreach, early intervention, and academic planning to support student success.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team while independently managing a caseload and contributing to CEPS programming.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent Problem Solving Skills
