Summary of Job Duties:The Medical Laboratory Scientist I - Hematology is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory analyses in the hematology section to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient health. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree from regionally accredited university in medical technology, medical laboratory science or approved science.
  • Must include sufficient subject credits to allow for eligibility to take the ASCP or equivalent board exam for certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

ASCP or equivalent certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or discipline specific certification (C, H) passed within 12 months of eligibility

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, body fluids and other biological samples to determine presence of normal and abnormal components in assigned section(s).
  • Perform quality controls or quality check materials and perform corrective action as required.
  • Enter test results and other data related to analysis and communication of results into relevant computer information systems or other document archival systems.
  • Provide technical information about specimen collection, sample transport, sample identification, required documents, test methods and other related technical information to RN's, physicians or laboratory clients.
  • Use laboratory computer systems to order tests, generate results, generate reports, document results and communications, interpret results, and other lab duties related to inventory, testing method verifications and quality control. cation and training.
  • Set-up, maintain and operate lab automation systems used to process samples.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on equipment used to perform testing.
  • Maintain equipment used for personal protection and safety such as eyewashes, safety showers, biohazard containers, hoods, chemical cabinets and personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain temperature dependent equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, heat blocks.
  • Daily quality control review.
  • Organize and clean workspaces.
  • Ensure adequate supplies required for daily operations are available by restocking inventory, preparing reagents, rotating stock as required.
  • Communicate with clinics, physicians and external staff regarding sample integrity issues and/or critical values.
  • Other duties as assigned
