DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will oversee inmate work, including tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the boiler plant at SCI Fayette. You will lead the efficient operation of four natural gas fired high temperature hot water boilers and two natural gas fired steam boilers, using both manual and automatic control systems. Your duties will also include performing maintenance and operational assessments; interpreting visual and oral gauges, meters, and sensing devices; and troubleshooting any problems that may arise. Additionally, you will need to establish effective working relationships with inmates to teach them the standard principles of boiler plant operation. This role also requires planning assignments, monitoring inmate attendance, conducting contraband searches, and adhering to safety and control protocols.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Sunday - Saturday, with rotating days off.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
