    Position Summary:

    Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Tax Accountant to support accurate preparation, filing, and recordkeeping for sales and use taxes and related tax activities. This role also contributes to core accounting functions and helps maintain compliance with federal and state tax requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and confident working independently in a dynamic accounting environment.

    JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:



    • Prepare and file accurate sales and use tax returns in compliance with all applicable regulations
    • Maintain and reconcile sales tax records and exemption certificates
    • Research and communicate with state and local tax agencies regarding compliance issues
    • Process daily tax holds, credit memos, and related entries in the accounting system
    • Code tax payments and reconcile accounts in Great Plains (or similar ERP systems)
    • Support business license registrations and Secretary of State filings
    • Advise and train internal teams on sales and use tax procedures
    • Prepare journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
    • Complete internal and external tax reports on a timely basis
    • Contribute to special accounting projects and process improvements as needed



    EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:



    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in sales and use tax preparation
    • Familiarity with Great Plains or SAP preferred
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other standard office tools
    • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills
    • Ability to resolve common tax issues independently

    Compensation & Benefits:

    This exempt, full-time position offers a starting salary range of $80,000 to $82,000 annually, paid semi-monthly. Eligible benefits include a 401K matching program and discretionary yearly contributions, with detailed information provided at the final interview stage. Additional variable compensation may include a discretionary year-end bonus based on overall company performance.

    In your first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 scheduled holidays, and 3 floating holidays. After one year, you'll have access to a generous short-term disability program, with premiums fully covered by the company. Employees are insured at 100% of their salary for the first 6 weeks and 66 2/3% for weeks 7 to 12.
