The Director - Sourcing serves as a point of contact during the opportunity qualification, sourcing and sales process. This individual manages sourcing and contracting delivery supporting sales efforts for new, renewal, expansion and business opportunity in a centralized department. You'll provide recommendations and consultation to account team and/or client regarding hotels, convention centers and destinations based on client specifications.
Scope
Manages workload and client management of 8-10 Travel Buyers/Sourcing Managers. Responsible for managing supplier sourcing and contracting activity necessary to support an estimated annual 550,000 hotel room nights equating to over $150,000,000 in room revenue and $35,000,000 in cost savings across Association, Tradeshow, and Live Events team. Strategically aligned to key accounts which generate $3M+ in gross profit. Manages a variety of portfolio of multimillion dollar global accounts and increases business / supports growth YOY by working with client, account management and sales leadership. Executes on strategies to support and grow the delivery of a supplier revenue stream of approximately $2-3 million annually.
Primary Responsibilities 40% - STAFF MANAGEMENT:
Evaluates performance, develops, and supports all direct reports by having continual aspirational coaching conversations. Ensures compliance on departmental and company policies and procedures. Forecasts and manages labor utilization on a monthly basis including project work. Creates, develops and manages productivity metrics for assigned team members. Tracks data to drive appropriate staffing and financial goals. Provides feedback as needed to individual employees, team or Sales leaders, pertaining to team members' performance and accuracy within account policies and procedures. Develops training materials, trains and manages continued education for all direct reports. Develops process and procedures for sourcing to be used team.
20% - SOURCING / CONTRACTING / RISK MANAGEMENT:
Directs and manages workload for Travel Buyers/Sourcing Managers. Provides expertise and best practices in negotiations to team. Leads regular team meetings. Leverages Maritz Global Events' interests in volume purchase opportunities. Provides direction and leadership for new client proposals. Manages productivity metrics established for the team. Acts as lead on client sourcing onboarding. Participates in new client onboarding and existing re-boarding meetings as necessary. Manages files during heavy workload periods and when special needs arise, including sourcing and contract negotiations.
20% - SALES SUPPORT:
Provides Sales with informal training and counseling on destination and hotel pricing. Provides Sales with competitive intelligence and pricing enhancement information for Sourcing-only programs. Presents the best solutions and resources in order to address client opportunities. Focuses on the customer base to retain clients and build growth with our best clients. Participates in new prospect client presentations when procurement, sourcing and/or destination expertise is required in addition to providing expertise/specialized knowledge with annual business reviews on major accounts.
20% - STRATEGIC SUPPLIER RELATIONS LIAISON:
Collaborates with Supplier Relations for development of advantage agreements and preferential contracts. Develops and maintains strong industry relationships to continue to grow our reputation and influence in the industry in order to leverage/provide market leading benefits to Maritz Global Events and our clients. Assists vendors in building global impact value. Directs destination and hotel selection to leverage overall spend and support the Company product strategy. Participates in supplier training and supplier presentations/visits. Represents Maritz Global Events at industry advisory boards and other industry educational events. Provides travel industry and product subject matter expertise to various sales channels in per-sales as well as contract interpretation/support post-sale.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, English or Business or equivalent experience required. Minimum of 7 years' prior industry experience in purchasing, proposal development and/or event management. Minimum of 2 years in travel purchasing with demonstrated familiarity with hotel contract components, contract interpretation and conflict resolution. Strong destination knowledge (domestic and international) preferred. 2+ years of experience leading direct reports preferred. In-depth knowledge at the management level of sales and/or operations in a service business, preferably in the Meeting, Event, and Incentives business. Knowledge of travel, supplier operations, capabilities and range of service. Must have high level negotiation skills. Proven hotel purchasing experience, with knowledge of supplier profit points. Proven ability to manage and develop direct reports. Demonstrated ability to achieve consensus among multiple functional areas to foster teamwork and assure "wins".
