General Summary: The UMass Boston "Research Computing Systems Professional" job family series of positions (levels 1 through 5) are systems administrators who are responsible for implementing and maintaining IT systems supporting research activities. The Systems Professional series is a five-level series that supports research facilitation, research data management, high performance computing, high throughput computing, hosting, and other types of systems administration. The organizational levels in this series include: The organizational levels in this series include: Research Computing Systems Administrator I (Systems Professional I) Examples of Duties: RC Systems Administrator I * Participate in running RC systems at scale. RC Systems Administrator II * fully in building, configuring, and running RC systems at scale. RC Systems Engineer *Participate fully in planning, building, configuring, and running RC systems at scale. RC Senior Systems Engineer *Lead the planning, building, and configuration of RC systems at scale. RC Systems Architect *Provide expert operational knowledge of RC systems at scale that provides performance improvements in complex environments. Qualifications: RC Systems Administrator I *Minimum of 2 years' relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience, including a combination of these two. *Knowledge of Linux systems administration. RC Systems Administrator II *Minimum of 5 years' relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience, including a combination of these two. *Broad knowledge of deployment and administration of RC systems (e.g. storage, compute, virtualization, networking, database, etc.). *Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset, and ability to act as trusted advisor. RC Systems Engineer *Minimum of 7 years' relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience, including a combination of these two. *Broad knowledge of deployment and administration of RC systems (e.g. storage, compute, virtualization, networking, database, etc.). *Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset, and ability to act as trusted advisor. *Specialized knowledge in specific technologies. RC Senior Systems Engineer *Minimum of 9 years' relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience, including a combination of these two. *Broad knowledge of deployment and administration of RC systems (e.g. storage, compute, virtualization, networking, database, etc.). *Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset, and ability to act as trusted advisor. *Specialized knowledge in specific technologies. *Ability to lead development of specific technologies. RC Systems Architect *Minimum of 11 years' relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience, including a combination of these two. *Broad knowledge of deployment and administration of RC systems (e.g. storage, compute, virtualization, networking, database, etc.). *Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset, and ability to act as trusted advisor. *Extensive knowledge in specific technologies. *Ability to lead development of specific technologies.
