Saxophone Teaching Faculty

The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a 65%-time Saxophone Teaching Faculty. Preference will be given to candidates with experience of successful teaching at the advanced level and significant experience in the field of saxophone performance. We seek a colleague who will join a nationally renowned faculty and staff and contribute to our program through teaching courses that develop and support a wide range of musical endeavors.

The instructor in this course will be expected to perform the following duties:

Instruction:
-Teach students in the classical saxophone studio, which may include Doctoral students and/or dissertators.
-Teach a weekly studio class
-Teach one chamber ensemble per semester
-Hold regular office hours

Department/Area Responsibilities:
-Attend all departmental and area meetings as required
-Recruitment of students for the classical saxophone studio
-Participate in undergraduate juries for the woodwind area at the end of each semester
-Attend graduate and undergraduate audition days
-Supervise teaching assistants

• 10% Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance
• 15% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
• 15% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
• 50% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
• 5% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
• 5% Recruitment of students for the saxophone studio

Terminal Degree

Qualified candidates will have the following required qualifications:
- Strong commitment to teaching excellence at undergraduate, master's, doctoral and dissertator levels
- One year of instructional experience at a college or university
- An enthusiasm for innovative, collaborative learning environments
- Evidence of an emerging national performance career

Well-qualified candidates will have the following preferred qualifications:
- 3 years of instructional experience at a college or university
- Evidence of an established national/international performance career
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with all persons with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. This includes but is not limited to the general public, students, staff, and collaborating partner

Part Time: 65%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $52,000 ACADEMIC (9 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position at 100% full time is $52,000 - $65,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The offered salary will reflect a 65% time appointment. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as sick leave, competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits. Employees have the option to continue benefits for the full calendar year.

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
