Primary Function

The Director, Regulatory Affairs is a shared regulatory resource across the Corporate Technology Center, North American Water Heating, Lochinvar, North American Water Treatment, and the Legal Department. While directly reporting to the Vice President of Government, Regulatory and Industry Affairs. The Director will lead and assist in the development and execution of regulatory strategies that will both inform and advance the company's business objectives across its product business units. The Director will also provide engineering and policy analysis to business unit leaders to assist in advancing the Company's business objectives in front of U.S. (Federal and State) and international regulatory and policy making bodies, and non-governmental organizations in North America.

Responsibilities
  • Leverages industry and regulatory professional experience to lead regulatory and technical analysis, as well as corporate presentations and official governmental presentations and submissions (e.g. notice and comment rulemakings, public testimony, as well as comments to standard setting organizations) on proposed product standards and test procedures at the international (e.g., NRCan), federal (e.g., Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency), and state/ local governmental level (e.g. California Energy Commission) impacting water and space heating technology and products.
  • Provides product engineering and regulatory recommendations to ensure strategic alignment between product road-mapping and future public policy and regulatory initiatives at the international, federal, state/local governmental level that will impact product development and sales.
  • Assists in leading and representing the Company's regulatory strategies and recommendations at industry technical and standard setting committees, including the ability to chair committees and working groups.
  • Facilitates and assists product engineering, management, and sales teams with analyzing, assessing, and ensuring compliance with current regulatory standards.

  • Resource to the Global Director of Certification and Reliability to ensure that all covered products are properly certified with international and domestic (e.g. U.S. federal and state) governmental certification requirements.

Qualifications
  • Master's DegreeinEngineeringorApplied Science preferred
  • 7+ years related work experience
  • Microsoft 365 Office Suite, SharePoint, and communication platforms (e.g., Teams, Zoom, Axios) and electronic research.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Private sector or public sector experience (or combination) in which the individual assisted in the interpretation of and/or directed the development of regulatory standards, including test procedures, performance and energy efficiency conservation standards, for residential and commercial space or water heating and hydronic equipment. This would include experience working with the U.S. Department of Energy, and it's National Laboratories, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the California Energy Commission, or an equivalent state regulatory body, including public utility commissions, as well as working with technical and regulatory representatives at non-governmental organizations such as American Council on an Energy Efficient Economy, and the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, among others, as well as manufacturer industry associations, such as the Air-Conditioning Heating Refrigeration Institute.
  • Experience working with code setting organizations such as the International Code Council, ASHRAE, as well as safety standard organizations such ANSI and UL.
  • Experience with certifying residential and commercial water heating products with regulatory bodies, including, but not limited to the U.S. Department of Energy (e.g., CCMS), the State of California, international regulatory bodies, and third-party testing laboratories and certification organizations (e.g. UL, Intertek, CSA, and AHRI).
  • Communication - Ability to write clearly, concisely and in a professional style and makes clear and concise oral presentations to individuals or groups; listens effectively and clarifies information as needed; facilitates open exchange of ideas and fosters an atmosphere of open communication.
  • Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.

Master's Degree in Engineering or Related Field
