Job Summary:

The Program Coordinator is considered an integral part of the Student Leadership Development team and is directly responsible for the oversight of the NEIU Programming Board (NPB), provide guidance and direction through regular interaction on event planning, budget management, and appropriate expenditures through the duration of the school year. The Program Coordinator will lead the efforts to coordinate programs and events that create school spirt, build traditions and foster a sense of belonging.

The Program Coordinator will also supervise an undergraduate intern who will work approximately 20 hours per week. In addition, is also responsible for managing training resources for student organization members and assisting with major office programs throughout the year.

This position will have regular, ongoing interaction with students.

Job Description:

Campus wide programs

  • Create and implement programs and events designed to increase school spirit and build traditions and community.

  • Work with Alumni Relations in fostering alumni and undergraduate relations.

  • Work with Admissions to create welcome events.

  • Provide event and program development consultation, officer training and member development for student organizations.

  • Coordinate student organization annual training and student organization fair.

NPB and COC Advisor

  • Work directly with the Chair of the COC.

  • Attend weekly COC meetings.

  • Track COC allocated funds.

  • Train Chair and members of COC at annual retreat.

  • Meet with organizations that have received Event by Event funding to review program details, review and process financial paperwork.

  • Act as Financial Manager for all Event by Event programs and track budget.

  • Advise Northeastern Programming Board and attend weekly meetings.

  • Train NPB members on programming and university policies.

  • Manage NPB finances.

Serves as a members of the unit's management team

  • Supervise undergraduate intern who will work approximately 20 hours per week.

  • Serve as a mentor throughout the intern experience and provide guidance to them as they seek post baccalaureate degree in higher education.

  • Represent the unit's director and assistant director at campus/university functions, committee, and task forces in their absence.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of office and campus wide programs.

  • Function as part of the SLD Leadership team in servicing daily walk-in student organization leaders seeking guidance and resources for event planning and student organizational management.

  • Assist the SLD Leadership team in providing leadership and strategic direction to the unit.

  • Participate in annual office goal setting processes and staff meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree.

2. A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education.

  • At least one year of professional experience in a Student Affairs unit with programming initiatives.

  • Experience and knowledge of large- and small-scale event planning, working with student organizations, and some budget development and management experience.

  • Skills include the ability to interact effectively with diverse student populations in a positive and empowering manner, strong written and oral communication skills (in both one-on-one and group settings), strong organization and time management skills, and effective problem-solving abilities.

  • Previous experience working in an urban setting is preferred.

This position requires a background check.

50,000
