Overview

A Nuclear Auditor is a driver of quality and regulatory compliance for nuclear manufacturing, construction, and overhaul of nuclear submarines.

The position affords the unique opportunity to work directly with all levels of management across the organization to develop, propose, and execute audit plans to ensure successful execution of nuclear work. A successful Nuclear Auditor will network with production communities and integrate themselves with the technical communities they oversee.

As an independent worker, the Nuclear Auditor is entrusted with the review of source documentation to identify key attribute for verification during the audit period. The auditor must be committed and driven to take on new challenges and acquire new areas of knowledge to provide oversight on a variety of topics. The Nuclear Auditor is the "eyes and ears" of the nuclear program at EB.

By assembling observations of deficiencies and opportunities for improvement on the deck plate, the Nuclear Auditor is able to construct insightful problem statements that prompt meaningful change in the nuclear organization.

Audit & Assessment provides oversight of work in all areas of manufacturing, construction, and overhaul, giving auditors the chance to gain experience in an unrivaled scope of disciplines and evolutions.

Specific responsibilities include:

    Develops relationships with functional area supervision and management through regular touch points
  • Keeps abreast of significant upcoming work
  • Tours nuclear work areas on a regular basis
  • Routinely surveils in-process nuclear work and records detailed observations (may include occasional backshift and/or weekend coverage, as well as travel up to 5%)
  • Develops and executes detailed audit plans to ensure compliance with Government and local requirements
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement of safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the organization
  • Writes and issues detailed audit reports, presents findings to management, and manages commitments associated with audit responses
  • Interfaces regularly with the Government and all levels of management regarding problem area trends


Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience working with Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) or Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in STEM discipline (i.e. Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Applied Math)
  • Experience in a quality oversight or regulatory role
  • Prior experience with regulatory requirements for Naval Nuclear work
  • Prior experience with ISO standards, particularly ISO 9001

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends, assess root causes, and recommend improvements
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of independence and professionalism
