Position Summary

New Mexico PBS/KNME-TV is seeking a Professional Intern to assist our Marketing team.

The NMPBS Marketing team provides strategic leadership and oversight of our presence in the broadcast, traditional media and digital spheres, including marketing initiatives, traditional and digital advertising, press and public relations and our presence on the web (nmpbs.org website), social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) and streaming platforms (the PBS app, pbs.org). This team is responsible for ensuring our broadcast and digital presence remains aligned with our strategic objectives and branding. This team is also responsible for creation of content for use in both broadcast and social media platforms. This unit is also responsible for expanding our NMPBS brand across all platforms in a robust and modern way, engagement of our communities, and creation of digital first content.

This is a term position lasting 24 months. Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Production of video content designed to promote streaming initiatives and programs.
  • Research of promotional content made available from PBS marketing for broadcast scheduling and use.
  • Creation (writing and editing) of weekly topical promotion for local programs New Mexico in Focus and COLORES!, working with program producers.
  • Distribution of weekly NMIF News Brief segments for on-air and social media usage.
  • Production and distribution of Underwriting Community Calendar: 10 spots as needed.
  • Filming promotional footage at NMPBS public and educational outreach events.
  • Filming and editing NMPBS digital first content for YouTube and vertical social media pieces.
  • Serving as initiator and primary contact for digital press efforts, promoting NMPBS content on NM blogs, websites and podcasts.
  • Assistance with planning and executing events.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Conditions of Employment
  • Must present transcripts prior to a formal offer being extended.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 24 months.


Minimum Qualifications

Must have obtained a Bachelor's or higher level degree no more than 24 months prior to the date of hire OR if the Bachelor's (or higher level) degree was obtained more than 24 months prior to the date of hire, the individual must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's (or higher level) degree program; no previous work experience required.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide
    range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
  • Ability to write creatively compelling copy under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Demonstrated competency in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects. Ability to learn working skills on these platforms as needed.
  • Technical production familiarity. Ability to learn and master specific production tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Skill in computer graphics and layout.
  • Familiarity with social media vertical video, Instagram and YouTube
  • Ready to adapt to a changing digital video landscape, keeping up with trends and best practices.
