Position Summary:
Oversees the planning and operation of the hospital's data center facilities, ensuring reliable 24O7 availability and disaster readiness. Manages and develops a team of data center operations staff covering a variety of related roles. Leads in the design of data center systems and as well as the development and enforcement of operational processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and directs all computer operations activities. Develops departmental organizational structure and recommends, develops and implements operations policies and procedures. Manages departmental projects and prioritizes activities to ensure that schedules are realistic, efficiently planned, and deadlines are met. Manages the transition of new systems into production; reviews production acceptance criteria and participates in design plans for new applications.
  • Designs and implements the layout, site preparation, and installation of computer equipment and peripherals within the data center. Evaluates equipment and supply needs and negotiates/documents equipment maintenance and repair services. Schedules equipment for preventive maintenance with the appropriate vendor or resource. Assists users in the Hospital community with technical questions about the selection of computer equipment, terminals and personal computers. Oversees the disposal of obsolete/retired equipment.
  • Manages a staff that covers the data center 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Plans and organizes work schedules to ensure adequate support coverage. Oversees the selection, hiring, and performance standards for the Data Center. Mediates interpersonal and disciplinary problems. Conducts and reviews performance evaluations, makes determinations of merit increases, promotions, terminations, and other personnel actions. Provides for staff development and training and ensures productivity levels to meet department commitments.
  • Oversees the operating budget and financial status of the department. Participates in the planning and negotiating for computer-related capital equipment purchases for the data center. Coordinates all purchasing of said equipment. Negotiates contracts with software and hardware vendors for quality service and cost reductions.
  • Acts as liaison with managed data center providers and Hospital Engineering to ensure prompt and proper attention to all environmental and facilities management issues. Maintains expertise in data center cooling, power and security technologies and systems. Oversees the work performed by vendors and managed service providers working in hospital data centers.
  • Participates in strategic planning and reviews the status of projects. Participates in various administration meeting to discuss and resolve any and all operational issues that affect hardware, software, backup and or production processing. Communicates strategy with operations staff.
  • Documents and automates job scheduling, job status monitoring, operations statistics, and shift turnover reports. Manages the workload automation and secure file transfer processing function. Develops departmental statistics for administrative purposes and justification for manpower and capital expense recommendations. Uses innovative techniques to provide systems status information to technical and executive staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Information systems or computer science degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 8 years of related professional experience required.
  • 4-5 years of managerial/supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure/ Certifications:

  • CDCP, CDCS, ITIL or equivalent certifications preferred.
