Job Description

Production Utility Operator Primary Responsibilities
  • Work safely.
  • Adhere to all company and regulatory EH&S policies and procedures. Look for safety issues and notify leadership of all safety concerns.
  • Act as backup operator for all departments on an as needed basis.
  • Accept assignments to a variety of jobs and be able to perform or assist in performing all melt jobs on a primary or secondary basis including: Furnace and melting operations, AOD, Concast, Gates, Crane, Shearline and Inspection, and Refractory.
  • Maintain and service department equipment as required for the job assignment.
  • Observe all job safety practices, manufacturing and technical work instructions.
  • Make data entries into computer data base and maintain other records and reports as required.
  • Maintain good housekeeping / maintain 5/S Program.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor / Area Manager.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school graduate, GED, or equivalent. Foundry or experience in a related manufacturing occupation preferred.
Other Qualifications
  • Must be able and willing to accept rotating job assignments involving a variety of technical tasks.
  • Must have mechanical, trouble shooting and mathematical aptitude.
  • Computer skills - can understand basic commands, operate required software applications.
  • Decision making ability - can comprehend complex multiple variables and take appropriate action without close supervision.
  • Must be able to physically work in an extreme heat stress environment with exposure to molten metal, dust, and fumes and ability to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment required for the position.
Other:
  • Must be physically capable of performing heavy manual duties, operate a variety of machinery and equipment and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Safety conscious with a good safety record.
  • Be dependable with a good attendance record.
  • Must be able to read work instructions.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate.
  • Must be willing to work overtime without prior notice.
