DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The incumbent of the position will participate in a one year long formal training period learning the job duties of a Civil Engineer Hydraulic. As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will work in the Construction Stormwater Section in the Regional Permit Coordination Office.

A Civil Engineer Trainee:

  • performs a variety of professional and engineering work supporting implementation
  • provides technical and engineering work to support core duties of implementation, planning, management, compliance and permitting programs associated with erosion and sediment (E&S) pollution control, NPDES construction permitting, post construction storm water management
  • provides technical expertise on environmental laws and regulations, assists in project reviews, performs watershed and drainage calculations, and supports statewide and regional stormwater management efforts
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes Barre.
  • Salary: Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $66,328.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
