Who is Saint Louis University? Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. Position Summary Founded in 2006 as the Bosnia Memory Project, the Center for Bosnian Studies is the only initiative of its kind in North America. It is a hub for preserving the stories, artifacts and experiences of Bosnian genocide survivors and their families. The Center has a particular focus on St. Louis's Bosnian community, which numbers more than 60,000, making it the largest Bosnian population outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Director of the Center for Bosnian Studies will focus on key priorities and initiatives which include:
- Recording interviews with genocide survivors and their families.
- Preserving books, letters, photographs, and artifacts that document Bosnian culture and history.
- Hosting events that highlight the experiences of Bosnian St. Louisans.
- Developing initiatives to deepen understanding of Bosnia, its diaspora, and its history.
- Contributing to academic programming in collaboration with faculty and students.
The Director will report to the Dean of Libraries & Museums and the Associate Dean of Distinctive Collections & Digital Services. Responsibilities include: Center Direction and Fundraising (90%)
- Oversees the operations of the Center
- Curates collections of archival materials and oversees the acquisition of new materials
- Oversees the Center's ongoing oral history initiative
- Collaborates and coordinates the Center's event series
- Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Distinctive Collections & Digital Services and the Associate Dean of Collections & Strategy on cataloging, digitization, preservation, and other aspects of the Center's collection
- Collaborate with other library personnel, including Digital Resources Librarian and Digital Archivist, to ensure accessibility and usability of Center materials
- As needed, works with the Office of the General Counsel to manage agreements through which other universities will make use of the Center's collections
- Collaborates with Advancement to assist with ongoing fundraising efforts directed at enhancing the quality and extending the scope of the Center's collection
- Manages communication and relationships with project partners, including teachers and students in dual-credit courses
- Manage the Center's social media accounts, if any, and collaborate with Marketing/Communication on managing the content of the Center's formal website
Service, Research/Scholarship and Professional Development (10%)
- May serve on committees and task forces at the department, Libraries & Museums, and University level
- Participates in local, state, and national/international professional and scholarly societies and organizations
- Conducts research and/or scholarship and presents research results thereof at conferences, through publication, or other avenues
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a humanities field
- Record of scholarship relevant to the history and culture of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Bosnian diaspora
- Experience in conducting relevant primary research, including the collection of oral histories
- Experience with program administration and fundraising
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in the Bosnian language (BCS and Serbo-Croatian and Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian)
