We are seeking a dynamic and experiencedindividual to lead our Medical Affairs team in the USA. This critical role will provide medical leadership, strategic direction, and governance for all medical activities in the country, ensuring alignment with commercial goals and compliance with internal and external standards.

Job Purpose

The Head of US Medical Affairs serves as the senior medical leader for the USA, driving medical excellence and governance while partnering with cross-functional teams to support the successful commercialization of products that improve patient outcomes. As a core member of the leadership team, this individual will:

  • Provide strategic medical leadership and ensure the country has robust medical capabilities to execute business priorities.
  • Collaborate with the SVP Commercial Head of US to develop and deliver medical strategies aligned with commercial goals.
  • Implement a framework of medical governance to ensure adherence to the highest standards.
  • Lead external engagement strategies, fostering relationships with healthcare organizations, external experts, and patient advocacy groups.
  • Support market access initiatives to ensure appropriate access to our medicines.
  • Champion continuous talent development within the Medical Affairs team to maintain excellence and succession planning.
Key Responsibilities

Medical Leadership and Governance

  • Oversee medical governance and ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the Medical Governance Committee and participate in risk management initiatives to proactively mitigate governance risks.
  • Ensure quality and safety in clinical studies conducted in the USA, adhering to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines and local regulations.
  • Approve promotional materials, labeling, and external communications to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Medical Strategy and Scientific Engagement

  • Provide strategic medical and scientific insights to support business priorities and product launches.
  • Lead the development and execution of medical plans, including data generation and scientific communication strategies.
  • Drive digital transformation in medical strategies, patient solutions, and scientific communication.
  • Support market access strategies, including Health Technology Assessment (HTA) submissions and publications.

External Engagement and Reputation Management

  • Foster relationships with external experts, investigators, academia, government officials, and patient advocacy groups to enhance ViiV Healthcare's reputation and trust.
  • Lead scientific engagement initiatives, such as advisory boards and medical education programs.

Medical Information and Support

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality medical information services to healthcare professionals and customers.
  • Maintain an effective local pharmacovigilance system to comply with global and local safety requirements.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • A Medical Doctor (or equivalent degree) or Pharmacist.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in medical affairs.
  • Prior experience as a Therapy Area Lead within US Medical Affairs.
  • Experience in a global medical lead role.
  • Expertise in the HIV therapeutic area.
  • Experience working in clinical development
  • Experience of leading successful product launches.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor talent.

Preferred

  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills.
  • Outstanding listening, communication, and leadership abilities.
  • Technical capabilities in advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and budgets in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with project management and Agile Development Process (ADP) methodologies.
  • Evidence of alignment to ViiV Healthcare's values and standards, acting as a role model for the organization
