Responsibilities

Job SummaryManages a team that executes the daily clinical research laboratory operations for all programs across HRI. Oversees staff and ensures adequate staffing levels, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring productivity, quality of work, compliance, and alignment of goals with our mission, vision, and values. Supports quality, service and financial metrics and initiatives. Manages the department and coordinates activities with other areas of the organization and with internal and external customers. Ensures compliance with all policies. Demonstrates financial stewardship by being accountable for financial integrity around development and maintenance of budget. Provides in-depth knowledge, expertise, and ongoing support, education, and training of laboratory research staff regarding the conduct of clinical research studies.Oversees analytical testing in the laboratory, document quality control, and performance on preventative maintenance and instrument troubleshooting. Evaluates aspects of clinical research protocols related to laboratory feasibility and procedures. Essential Functions
  • Manges day to day operations for the clinical research laboratory. Ensures work is completed in an accurate and efficient manner following institutional policies/procedures, while assuring the timeliness of results. Develops and implements departmental processes. Mentorship and training of assigned laboratory staff and experience with literature search and generating a knowledgebase of information. Incorporating International Air Transport Association regulations and guidelines and good clinical practice for the conduct of clinical trials. Develops metrics, including KPIs for the clinical research laboratory and reports metrics to senior leadership. Identifies needs and develops processes and policies applicable to the department.
  • Recruits and retains talented clinical research laboratory staff through mentorship, staff education, fostering peer relationships and participating in preceptor and/or mentor programs. Interviews, selects, and makes recommendations for hiring of personnel. Evaluates employee performance, recognizes their achievements, counsels and disciplines them as necessary. Ensures standards of performance are met and that staff comply with all OSHA and department safety policies and procedures. Evaluates and fosters growth and successes of individual contributors to identify for promotion. Edits and approves time via Laborworkx. Evaluates and documents instrument function verification checks and preventative maintenance on all equipment consistent with departmental policies and procedures. Oversees all department instrument and specimen management, reviewing for consistency and malfunction.
  • Evaluates performance checks and calibrations of laboratory instrumentation within assigned laboratory sections with assigned laboratory personnel. Evaluates reagents, media and standards according to established criteria. Conducts, documents, monitors and evaluates established quality control or quality assurance procedures on analytical tests, reagents, equipment and products. Responsible to collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director of Clinical Research Operations, and clinical research laboratory staff to establish and implement process improvement. Leads in the preparation of the laboratory for onsite inspections.
  • Facilitates inter/intra departmental networking and promotes problem solving. Monitors and develops budgets, identifies fiscally responsible efficiencies, and implements same. Serves as a resource to others, including staff, providers, sponsors, visitors and vendors.
