About the Role:
The purpose of the position is to provide efficient, accurate and timely delivery of income tax effect accounting process for International Operations. The position is responsible for monthly, annual and reporting period end income tax accounting deliverables.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Identifies and assesses risks, including making risk informed decisions, to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
- Facilitate the embedding of standard finance processes/systems as they relate to tax effect accounting and processes
- Champion & drive process improvement initiatives to improve team efficiency & global standardization where applicable
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across functions and jurisdictions
Key Stakeholders
- Works directly with Houston based Tax team, Finance Business Partners, and GFC team on emerging issues impacting tax accounting
- Owns external & internal audit requests for information from Internal Audit, PWC and government regulators
- Responds to queries and supports any required analysis
Accounting & Technical
- Governance oversight ensuring compliance with WMS Documents, SOX controls, and Woodside Accounting policy as it relates to application of income tax accounting
- Analysis and documentation of accounting standards application, primarily IAS 12, including technical accounting adviceand justification for internal and external stakeholders
- Manage themonthlynotionalincome tax effect accounting process
- Manage reporting period income tax effectprocess and deliverables includingcalculation,review and analysisof deferredtaxbalances
- Manage income tax effectaccountingfor subsidiaries, includingassessment ofdeferred tax balances, andpreparation oftax disclosuresrequired for statutoryfinancialstatements
- Provide support to the budgeting and planning team inreviewingbudgetedtaxassumptions
- Collaboration with Tax group on responsibilities in the tax system (OTP), including administrator duties, inputs and booking of output to SAP
- Oversee reviews and understanding of applicable US regulation to ensure proper calculation and timely settlement of all royalty related items
- Prepares internal reports for royalty accruals, distribution, and payments in alignment with internal requirements
Skills & Experience:
- Experience working with regulatory agencies in an audit environment
- Significant experience working in an SAP-based (or similar large ERP system) general ledger, business warehouse and consolidation system environment.
- Understanding of and experience in working with various sub-systems that feed the Revenue systems.
- Track record of championing process improvements
- Stakeholder focus
- Familiarity and application of IAS 12 and general tax effect accounting
- Experience with producing IFRS compliant tax disclosures
- Performs analysis to provide insight to decision making
- Translates strategic direction into practical plans and can adapt to changing priorities
- Identifies and implements process improvements
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
