Job Details

To act as Manager of Chaplaincy Services for TJUH, Inc., supervising Staff Chaplains
and managing the chaplaincy program with regard to all matters. Provides or
coordinates training and support, for all direct reports. Provides or coordinates
orientation and training for network staff regarding the importance and use of
Chaplains. Responds to emergent situations requiring Chaplaincy support. Assists the
Vice President for Patient Experience in the strategic development of the program.

Functions as CPE Supervisor for the residency: recruits, screens, interviews, selects,
orients, teaches supervises and evaluates CPE Residents. Conducts some of the
didactics and verbatim sessions for CPE Residents. Responsible for administrative
functions related to the CPE program, assigning some to CPE Supervisor as
appropriate. Maintains the standards of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education,
Inc. (ACPE), which "is a multicultural, multifaith organization devoted to improving the
quality of ministry and pastoral care offered by spiritual caregivers of all faiths through
the educational method of CPE."

Job Description

  • Ensure the delivery of a complete program of spiritual care to patients/residents,
  • their loved ones and staff of all faith traditions.
  • Actively participate in the delivery of spiritual care.
  • Ensure that all requests for spiritual care are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate worship opportunities are provided.
  • Ensure that ritual and sacramental needs are met
  • Supervise and facilitate the work of those delivering spiritual care including
  • employees of the institution as well as students and residents of the CPE program
  • Provide orientation and training according to institutional and JCAHO
  • standards.
  • Conduct yearly performance reviews as appropriate.
  • Monitor days away and ensure adequate staffing
  • Participate as appropriate in hiring and disciplinary processes.
  • Coordinate clergy, pastoral visitors, and volunteers from the religious / spiritual community.
  • Orient to policies and procedures that affect their visiting
  • Provide resources including patient lists according to institutional policy.
  • Provide liaison with institutional personnel.
  • Support an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care.
  • Provide liaison to other departments such as social work, volunteers, etc.
  • Provide orientation to spiritual care to other departments as invited.
  • Serve on institutional committees such as ethics and Institutional Review
  • Board as appointed.
  • Promote an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care among all
  • chaplains.
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of the spiritual care offices and chapel. Provide proper office supplies, ritual items and religious literature.
  • Provide for the maintenance of office equipment. Oversee the scheduling of the chapel.
  • Develop and maintain proper administration procedures for the department in accordance with institutional policy.

  • department/institution.
  • Develop and administer the department's plan for continuous quality
  • improvement.
  • In consultation with clinical spiritual care education supervisor, administer
  • departmental education program.
  • Respect and protect students' rights to have a quality CPE center and to
  • have excellent supervision.
  • Participate in student selection as appropriate.
  • Ensure that students are properly oriented and comply with hospital
  • policy.
  • Assist with integration of students into clinical placements.
  • Assist with the implementation of the training curriculum.
  • Contribute to the wider community through publication, teaching, and research.
  • Seek opportunities to author or co-author materials relevant to spiritual care and pastoral education.
  • Participate in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited. Participate in programs and administrative activities of the institution.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings.
  • Participate in regular professional development activities and supervision.
  • Participate in periodic planning meetings for department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, or Master's Degree required
  • clinical training in chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning for ministry by a
  • recognized religious group, a current endorsement for chaplaincy by a recognized religious group 1-2 Years of Managerial Experience preferred
