Position Title Learning Labs Resource Coordinator
Department Education (YI) - 052
Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Museum's Learning Labs are public-facing education spaces, which provide visitors with engaging, hands-on experiences in natural history through access to Museum collections and facilitated learning experiences, at no cost. The Learning Labs include The Discovery Room (a family-friendly space that offers an introduction to the Museum's science and a gateway to its exhibition galleries) and The Hall of Human Origins Educational Laboratory (a functioning research lab that explores who we are, where we came from, and what it means to be human).
The Education department is seeking a full-time Learning Labs Resource Coordinator, responsible for the daily operations of the Museum's Discovery Room and Hall of Human Origins ( HHO) Educational Laboratory. The Coordinator will help lead the facilitation strategy for the Discovery Room, handling volunteer and staff scheduling and ensuring proper maintenance of activities, materials and supply stocks for the Discovery Room and the HHO Lab.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise drop-in hours and program delivery in the Discovery Room and Hall of Human Origins Educational Laboratory alongside the Learning Labs Project Manager. Support volunteers, interns and education staff in providing excellent facilitated experiences for visitors through modeling, coaching and professional learning opportunities.
  • Maintain the weekly facilitator schedule, serving as the primary point of contact for roughly 60 Discovery Room volunteers and interns and insuring adequate staffing coverage across all Learning Labs drop-in dates. Support recruitment and onboarding of Learning Labs volunteers.
  • Monitor Learning Labs materials including furnishings, condition, and storage areas and document issues and concerns as they arise. Submit and monitor progress on facilities work orders for remediating issues within Learning Labs.
  • Review Standard Operating Procedures and documentation for Learning Labs staff and volunteers, recommending changes and updates throughout the programming seasons.
  • Track inventory on consumable supplies in Learning Labs and manage the supply ordering schedule to maintain consistent stock levels.
  • Perform basic exhibit maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Support the development and installation of new facilitated experiences in the Discovery Room and across the Learning Labs initiatives.
  • Contribute to operational planning for new initiatives across education spaces as a member of the Education Operations department.

The expected salary range for the Learning Labs Resource Coordinator is $50,000/annual - $56,000/annual. This position is overtime-eligible and the AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
