MedStar Health is looking for a Radiation Therapist Float to join our team at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital!

As a Radiation Therapy Technologist Float, you will administer radiation therapy treatments, perform simulation procedures, and assist in the planning of radiation therapy treatments. Documents all aspects of patient treatment in medical records. Supports the Chief Therapist and Technical Director in implementing new policies and procedures and attaining departmental and organizational goals.

Position requires routine assignment ("float") among multiple practice sites such as Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital, Medstar Montgomery Medical Center, Medstar Washington Hospital Center, and Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.

Primary Duties:

  • Accurately records all aspects of simulation, treatment delivery, and billing. Maintains proficiency with all aspects of the EMR (Electronic Medical Record). Consistently utilizes the QA (Quality Assurance) Checklist function. Runs the Contingency Report. Keeps treatment/CT simulator rooms and console areas neat and adequately stocked. Notifies chief therapist of technical supplies needed. Reports all treatment units/simulator malfunctions to the physicist/engineer and documents. Observes all rules, regulations and instructions concerning radiation safety.

  • Able to access, update, review, and send performance goals and evaluations. Actively participates in all QA procedures by ensuring all aspects of weekly chart review are completed. Performs dose verification according to protocol and documents appropriately. Verifies and records SSD's weekly. Acquires all necessary patient imaging. Ensures charts are accurate and complete. Schedules simulation and treatment procedure appropriately to ensure the office runs efficiently and patients are treated promptly. Provides patients with initial appointment and treatment calendar. Resolve treatment schedule conflicts by the end of the day. Evaluates missed appointments with patients or family and documents in the EMR.

  • Operates the CT (Computed Tomography) simulator and necessary equipment. Performs the morning quality assurance procedure, emergency shutdown procedure, and follows the operation manual for the CT Scanner. Performs HDR, Mold Room duties, Time Out procedure, urethrograms, oral, and IV Contrast. Provides patient with education on what to expect during the simulation procedure. Fabricates immobilization devices. Verifies all consent forms are signed, witnessed, and dated prior to any procedure being performed. Utilizes the EMR Policies and Procedures Manual. Completes all appropriate documentation, photographs & associations, QCL, and appropriate billing.

  • Interacts professionally with the patient and family members by appropriately evaluating the patient's condition to inform the physician if their attention is required. Documents any symptoms or problems pertaining to the patient. Promotes a patient friendly environment and demonstrates concern for patient comfort. Treats patients and family members with courtesy and respect. Notifies the physician and or nursing staff whenever the patient cancels an appointment. Performs document scanning. Assists in training of new therapy staff, including students. Completes all necessary student/visitor forms and forwards them to the technical director. Completes all student clinical evaluations.

  • Operates the linear accelerator(s) including, Imaging and Respiratory Motion. Demonstrates proficiency in the setup and administration of radiation therapy for all patient treatment procedures. Administers radiation therapy treatments according to safety guidelines. Provides on going patient education by reinforcing the physician's advice regarding skin care, diet, treatment side effects, and reactions. Provides patients with education on what to expect during treatment. Performs hand calculations / adCalc dose verifications.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology.

  • Maryland Board of Physicians License 'O' as a Radiation Therapist, or 'M' Licensed as a Radiation Therapist and Radiographer.

  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology).

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification with AED.

  • Maintain Maryland CE Continuing Educational Requirements (24 CE Credits/2 years).

This position has a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52
