Job Summary: Under limited guidance, work at the business unit level developing the end-to-end solution architecture for significant initiatives in partnership with key business and IT stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Responsible for leading the development of comprehensive solution architecture strategies, ensuring seamless integration of application solutions across teams and domains while maintaining robust technical foundations. The role involves collaboration with other architects to validate feasibility, oversee compliance with quality attributes, manage technical risks, and guide IT architects to enhance their solution architecture leadership skills, all while aligning with FedEx best practices and technological standards.

  • Lead and define solution architecture strategies, encompassing technology and architecture for seamless integration of application solutions across various teams and domains.
  • Establish and maintain the architectural runway at a solution level, ensuring a robust technical foundation for the rapid and reliable creation of new functionalities and features across teams and ARTs.
  • Collaborate with other architects to validate the feasibility and sustainability of solution architectures and application portfolio lifecycle planning, ensuring alignment with FedEx best practices and design standards.
  • Oversee the management of non-functional requirements and compliance to ensure that solution architectures meet essential quality attributes such as performance, scalability, security, and maintainability, meeting stakeholder acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with other architects to define the appropriate delivery approach for solution services, encompassing processes, methodologies, tooling, and partnerships for agreement on service design and delivery.
  • Identify and manage technical risks and continuous improvement opportunities for solution architectures, leveraging expert business knowledge to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate new or emerging technologies utilized by internal teams, ensuring alignment with FedEx technological standards and potential integration into solution architectures.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other IT architects to develop their skills and expertise in solution architecture leadership and execution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with Sparx EA.
  • Working knowledge of established application design frameworks and UML.
  • Ability to successfully influence change.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with implementing architecture principles and patterns.
  • Spring Boot, Java, Angular, GitHub, Gradle, Splunk, AppDynamics, OAuth, relational database, NoSQL, and Linux skill-sets desired.
  • Experience with SOA, API First, service design and development.
  • Experience architecting and implementing distributed systems that process large data volumes with low latency.
  • Working knowledge and experience developing large scale distributed systems.
  • Experience working within Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and XP development practices.
  • Experience in Continuous Integration/Deployment (DevSecOps) environment preferred.
  • Experience in setting application architectural direction and disaster recovery models.

  • Time management and prioritization skills.
  • Independent worker but also able to collaborate with others.
  • Project management, system analysis and design experience is helpful.
  • Proactive, great attention to detail, results-oriented problem solver.
  • Ability to balance long term goals against immediate concerns in the areas of code maintainability, developer productivity and customer experience.
  • Thinking outside the box, willingness to battle for good ideas, willingness to collaborate with team members.

Domicile Information:

This is a Hybrid position requiring the employee to be onsite 3 days a week at the Pittsburgh, PA location. The candidate must live within 50 miles of Pittsburgh, PA.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information Systems, business and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.

Minimum Experience

Five (5) years equivalent work experience in information technology or engineering environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirement.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.

Pay: $8,896.99 - $12,010.93/month
