Role Name: Cloud Solutions Architect
Location: Columbia, SC (Onsite is highly preferred but open to Remote) Schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m - Possible overtime, when needed to meet project timeline. Contract length: 6 months (possibility of extension) Job Summary: Duties/About the role: * Provide expertise regarding architectural principles across one or more lines of business. Provide consultative services to high-level clients, ensuring technical risks and opportunities are considered and appropriately addressed in business initiatives and decisions. Ensure new products meet analysis, design, and development standards for multiple operating environments. Ensure application owners and/or key design team members have the resources to understand the design and construction of the operating environments to ensure system integrity. * 20% Influence strategic technology decisions by providing expert advice and education to senior technical and business staff. * 20% Help formulate and achieve business objectives within the technical architecture for multiple business units. Support "proof of concepts" to demonstrate technological capability and adherence to architectural principles. Ensure the enterprise has the capability to support new technologies and maintain a high level of performance and reliability. * 20% Review escalations and validate projects are within architectural and technological boundaries. Make recommendations to mitigate risk of going outside those boundaries. * 15% Identify technical challenges resulting from business problems that must be addressed and resolved to ensure the successful achievement of business unit objectives. Act as a visionary in support of Research and Development activities. Monitor the deliverable to ensure it stays on track to meet the objective. * 10% As a subject matter expert, mentor others to ensure technical skills are in place to meet technical leadership-related resource requirements in the future. Provide oversight for technical audit responses and leadership to cross-functional teams. * 10% Build and maintain relationships that can be leveraged to provide technical support for the organization's business direction. Form alliances on projects, operational decisions, and scheduling requirements. * 5% Support RFP and marketing efforts by serving as a subject matter expert for the set of assigned applications. Day to Day: * In the Cloud Solutions Architect role, a typical day involves providing strategic technical leadership across cloud initiatives, ensuring that all solutions align with enterprise cloud architecture standards and business objectives. * The architect begins the day by collaborating with stakeholders and project teams to understand upcoming requirements and translate them into scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud designs. * They provide expert guidance on architectural principles, helping teams select the right cloud services-such as compute, storage, networking, and security components-across platforms like AWS or Azure. Throughout the day, they review and refine solution designs, lead architecture review sessions, and mentor development teams on best practices for cloud-native development, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD integration. * They may also evaluate new tools or services, assess their fit within the organization's cloud strategy, and ensure that all implementations support long-term scalability, performance, and governance goals. Their role is both strategic and hands-on, bridging the gap between business needs and technical execution. Team Info/Team name: This is an exciting new opportunity at CBIC. The new team will consist of several scrum teams dedicated to migrating applications to the CMS AWS Cloud and updating them for the next round of Competitive Bidding. This structure leverages a wide range of skills and expertise, enabling the team to operate across distinct functions and projects while working from various locations. It's a flexible and dynamic approach to team organization that supports agility and innovation in a global business environment. Required Experience: * 7 years of related IT experience. 2 years of experience developing in-depth knowledge of 1 or 2 application systems or infrastructure technologies (maybe concurrent). Required Education: * Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job-related field. or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology or other job-related degree. Required Technologies: * Proficiency in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure). * Experience with AWS tools, Services, and its integrations. * CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices * Cloud migration experience. * Medicare Experience Required Skills and Abilities: * Proven ability to achieve successful product integrations within a matrix management environment. * Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills. * Demonstrated ability to develop and release quality products on time, to build network and collaborative relationships throughout complex organizations. * Understands and applies the attributes and processes application and system development methodologies. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical approaches to all levels of staff, management, and end-users. * Successful track record of leading multidisciplinary work teams. * Thorough knowledge and understanding of the technologies, architecture, and practices and direction of a complete line of business.
