Job Summary
The role of this position is to provide administrative oversight for the Lift Team and immediate supervision to the Lift Technicians. This position will serve as the subject matter expert for the use of Safe Patient Handling (SPH) equipment, movement of patients, and body mechanics. The SPH Trainer also serves as the SPH coach and trainer for all staff involved in patient handling. Must be familiar with standard precautions and isolation procedures. Must be skilled in teaching best practices related to patient lifting, proper body mechanics and testing for minimal assistance, safe patient handling and safe practice and procedures. Must be skilled in handling bariatric patients and pediatric patients. - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR within 3 months of hire
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience or training
- Supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of such education and experience
- Skills to supervise a technical team and to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Supervisory skills related to recruitment, organizing, scheduling, and assigning work, training and evaluating work performance, implementing counseling, discipline and corrective actions.
- Strong knowledge of patient care support activities. systems, external regulations. and internal policies.
- Knowledge of Fair Labor Practices, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and University policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated analytical experience with the ability to identify, analyze, report and resolve problems accurately and timely.
- Knowledge and ability to exercise discretion, use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Solid interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies.
- Experience conducting group and individual training sessions.
- Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound Judgment during medical emergencies.
- Knowledge of and experience safely operating safe patient handling equipment including lifts, friction reducing devices, powered and non-powered patient equipment.
- Experience safely operating wheelchairs, gurneys, electric beds, cribs, and special beds.
- Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques. and skill to transfer patients without injury to self, patient or others.
- Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate Infection control techniques to safeguard other patients and visitors from infected patients.
- Knowledge of CPR. 02, IVs/pumps, feeding tubes/pumps, foley bags, and chest tubes.
- Experience in recognizing and reporting problems with life support equipment or a sudden change in a patient's condition.
- Strong computer skills including EMR, e-mall, PC based programs, and MS Word and Excel applications.
- Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
- Skilled in written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey complex clinical and technical Information In a clear and concise manner, and to produce a variety of reports and analyses.
- Experience preparing reports, memorandums and documents.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
- Ability to use a calculator and possess basic math skills.
- Ability to maintain a culture that values diversity, respect and accepts the contribution of others, and supports open communication.
- Skills to perform CPR.
