THE POSITION Are you skilled in the preparation and review stages of intricate projects, such as multi-span concrete or steel structures? If so, the Department of Transportation invites you to consider a position as our Bridge and Structural Designer. In this role, you will be tasked with developing and evaluating detailed plans for a variety of bridge and structural initiatives. Furthermore, you will perform critical engineering calculations to support the design of simpler structures, including culverts and basic span steel and concrete bridges, along with substructure components. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will establish the necessary standards for developing preliminary design submissions, along with plans and special provisions for various structures such as culverts and retaining walls. You will work closely with a technical supervisor who will offer guidance on complex matters and assess your completed work to ensure it is accurate and adheres to established technical standards. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Bridge and Structural Draftsman-Designer (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Three years of professional experience in bridge and structural design work, including six months involving CADD operation; an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology.; or One year of professional experience in bridge and structural design work, including six months involved CADD operation; and a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, or a closely related field; or Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
