THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services is searching for a Medical Records Examiner to review and evaluate clinical and fiscal records at certified Medicaid nursing facilities in order to assess compliance with all applicable federal and state requirements. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Medical Records Examiner, you will be responsible for conducting OBRA and MDS reviews on a regular basis as well as processing MA 408's and submitting them to the administrative assistant to be reviewed and entered into the Nursing Home Information System. At times, you may also be asked to assist with financial reviews. This position requires excellent communication skills, as you will be interacting with your assigned nursing facilities regularly. Work involves creating OBRA and MDS summaries on the computer to distribute to your facilities during a review and conducting entrance and exit conferences with nursing facility staff. You will have the opportunity to coordinate with other agencies and departments to ensure appropriate services are provided for individuals using long-term living services. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Performing evaluations of identified targeted individuals
  • Completing financial reviews to identify recoveries to ensure adjustments are made for any inappropriate payments or billings
  • Performing follow-up reviews to ensure compliance with corrective action plans
  • Officering technical assistance to staff as needed to achieve compliance

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Travel is required
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of professional experience in the field of medical assistance, health care services, or human services; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • Employees that possess an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • This position requires an active motor vehicle license.
