Job Description

The College of Arts and Science is hiring a Student Support Specialist I position to support advising and student services. This position will play an integral role in helping students and others who seek out information related to academic advising and enrollment as an undergraduate student in A&S. This is a great opportunity to work with a team that impacts students by providing accurate, helpful information to support how they navigate the College and University. This position also works with a group of advisors and student service professionals who are dedicated to student success. We're seeking an individual with strong communication skills, detail-oriented, and focused on service to students and the advising team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a first point of contact for students, parents, and campus colleagues seeking information about academic advising, enrollment processes, and student services in the College.
  • Assist students with routine questions and help guide them to the appropriate resources.
  • Collaborate with academic advisors and student service professionals to help coordinate services that promote student success.
  • Provide technical and clerical support by reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and processing student data related to academic credit, degree eligibility, admissions, and scholarships.
  • Ensure quality service that directly impacts the success and satisfaction of the team and the students served.

  • How to interact professionally with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff at the University
Shift

The typical work week is Monday through Friday with working hours generally between 8 am and 5 pm with occasional evening and weekend events. Work hours may be flexible with supervisor approval.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

  • 1-2 years of office or customer service experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to learn different student information systems
  • Desire to continually learn and assist others
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work holistically with students
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $14.80 to $20.32 per hour

Grade: GGS - 006

Other Information

This position is located on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia with the option to work remotely for up to two days per week after training. Candidates must reside in the state of Missouri or be willing to relocate prior to start date.
