Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Product Owner and help shape the future of our digital platforms!

About the role

In this role, you'll serve as the voice of the customer and the business, translating complex needs into clear, actionable work for agile development teams. You'll own the product backlog, drive prioritization, and ensure that every feature delivers meaningful value. You'll also collaborate across departments-engineering, design, compliance, and business stakeholders-to bring innovative solutions to life.

This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, leading cross-functional initiatives, and mentoring others.

What you will do



  • Drive Product Execution:

    • Own and maintain a healthy, prioritized backlog for one or more agile teams. Write user stories and acceptance criteria that clearly articulate business outcomes and customer needs. Lead sprint planning and ensure alignment with strategic goals.


  • Champion the Customer:

    • Act as the voice of the customer within the team. Leverage user research, feedback, and data to advise decisions and continuously improve the product experience.


  • Collaborate Across Teams:

    • Partner with product managers, engineers, designers, and business partners to align on goals, scope, and delivery timelines. Represent the product team in cross-functional initiatives and ensure visibility of dependencies.


  • Ensure Quality and Readiness:

    • Participate in testing and validation efforts. Approve features for release based on defined outcomes and quality standards.


  • Mentor and Lead:

    • Provide guidance to junior product owners and analysts. Help foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Compensation

Salary Range: $103,300 - $172,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are



  • High School Diploma required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or similar role in an agile environment.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise systems and digital product development.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing complex product backlogs.
  • Experience with DevOps and Microsoft Application Delivery highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and team member management skills.
  • Ability to translate abstract ideas into clear, actionable work.
  • Experience with user research, data analysis, and customer feedback loops.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent highly preferred.
  • Experience in insurance or financial services is a plus but not required.
