Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Space Planning Specialist will support space planning for laboratory operations across Vertex's Research and Development sites. This role will report to the corporate space planning function but works closely with Lab Operations, Facilities, EHS, researchers, and key stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop initial space plans for new labs and lab reconfiguration, as well as equipment moves, or new equipment installs.
  • Analyze departmental lab space needs and recommend options with adherence to lab master plan.
  • Conduct audits of lab space to assess current condition.
  • Create graphics, floor plans and square footage takeoffs to assist end users and leadership in decision making.
  • Develop migration plans and sequencing group-level and individual lab moves by partnering with the lab move team and extended Facilities team.
  • Inform CAD/Revit floor plans in coordination with Lab Instrumentation & Global Engineering to ensure high quality data.
  • Assist in managing lab casework orders and inventory.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of general research facility design, including architectural elements, MEP systems, FF&E, and specialty equipment.
  • Understanding of lab workflows and programming details.
  • Ability to provide front-end planning and feasibility design/layout in support of the capital planning process.
  • Proven ability to work at a fast pace on multiple projects of a critical nature.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Able to be trusted with highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to proactively identify and communicate conflicts in scheduling/priorities.
  • Consistently displays sound ethics, good judgment and demonstrates Vertex's core values.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Facilities Management, Architecture, or Business.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of space utilization and facilities management.
  • Bluebeam, KAON, CAD, CAFM, IWMS, Service Now, and Nuvolo experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform as an individual contributor as well as work as part of a team, think strategically, and proactively identify and address problems.

Pay Range:

$26 - $40

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
