Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our GYN Oncology Department supporting our sites in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for GYN oncology patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting
  • Admit and discharge patients on behalf of the attending physician
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions
  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
  • Prescribe drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assist in the operating room
  • Round on surgical patients
  • Assess patient and family needs and provide education
  • Promote/provide staff education
  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting
  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice
  • Maintenance of active hospital privileges

Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Post MSN oncology/gyn oncology nursing or Physician Assistant experience preferred
  • Patient and surgical skill set experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment preferred
  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Must be willing to travel to the various hospitals and practice locations
  • Must be available to work Saturdays
  • Prefer acute care experience or prior privileges in acute care
