Rutgers University-Newark, an urban, public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Part-Time PreCollege Youth Mentor (Temporary) reporting to the Associate Dean of the Center for PreCollege Programs. The Center for PreCollege Programs seeks dynamic Youth Mentors to develop and implement student-centered, interactive classes culminating in student presentations.
The PreCollege Youth Mentor's duties include, and are not limited, to the following:
- Facilitate individual and group mentoring and/or tutoring activities (in person and remotely) to foster and build appropriate mentoring relationships with students to encourage and support the college-going culture
- Assist with programming and/or workshop facilitation and program activities as assigned
- Assist with program activity design for youth development activities
- Act as support chaperone on trips
- Maintain accurate service logs to track student attendance, participation & performance
- Prepare reports as required through database entry and tracking
- Document program services via video and pictures
This position is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding. |

Salary Details |
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour |

Work Arrangement |
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the experience requirement

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- High school diploma and a minimum completion of 2 semesters of college with a combination of education and/or experience in facilitating team building, mentoring workshops, or tutoring for high school students
- Must complete the Protection of Minors Training and background check

Preferred Qualifications |
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Demonstrate strong organization, professionalism, creativity, and diplomacy skills.
- Possess the ability to interpret and adhere to policies and take ownership of tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
